Trailer Released for “The Breadwinner”; Nate Bargatze’s First Leading Role in a Family Comedy

According to the CinemaDrame News Agency, TriStar Pictures has released a new trailer for the family comedy “The Breadwinner”—a film that marks Nate Bargatze’s first leading role in a feature film.

The film is directed by Eric Appel (director of “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story”), and Mandy Moore stars alongside him as his wife.

In “The Breadwinner,” Mandy Moore plays Katie, a successful and capable mother who secures a major business deal after appearing on the show “Shark Tank.” This development leads her husband Nate—who has always been the family’s breadwinner—to switch roles and become a stay-at-home dad, a decision that quickly confronts him with serious challenges.

The couple’s children, played by Stella Grace Fitzgerald, Brady Borgia, and Charlotte Ann Tucker, show little confidence in their father’s abilities from the very beginning—to the point that one of them dramatically exclaims, “We’re all going to die!”

As the trailer continues, a series of chaotic and comedic situations unfolds—from Nate getting into a car accident that results in the explosion of his daughter’s volcano model, to everyday mishaps such as handling nighttime household duties, dealing with clogged pipes, and even having his nose hair painfully pulled out by his children.

At one point in the film, Nate says:
“I don’t know how Katie does it. My feet hurt, my back hurts. She makes it all look so easy. This is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life.”

“The Breadwinner” is set to be released on May 29 (Khordad 8), opening alongside several other films including “Backrooms” from A24, “Pressure” from Focus Features and StudioCanal, “Tuner” from Black Bear, and “The Furious” from Lionsgate.

The screenplay is written by Nate Bargatze and Dan Lagana, who also serve as producers alongside Jeremy Latcham of Wonder Project.
